Caroline South was born in Upland, CA. She was born with a heart defect that could’ve been fatal, but with medical help and a lot of prayers, it was healed and was never a problem for the rest of her life. When she was five years old, her dad ran for the Montana House of Representatives, and Caroline’s face was featured in Carroll’s campaign materials – certain to endear him to voters for being the father of such a cute little girl. She went to public school her whole life and graduated from Custer County High School in 1987.Caroline also has a love of dogs – and the muttier, the better.
Name of Artist: Caroline South
Date of Birth:December 10, 1968
Style
Caroline Souths’s art possesses a lot of color. She uses colorful patterns. She combines a love for arts, and crafts. I think we would call her photography still life. This is because she has lots of different objects that are rearranged.
Philosophy
She originally started taking photographs for her blog where she shared a combination of images of both her family, her beach collections, and various craft projects. She liked instagram because it was a creative outlet to share her pieces. Caroline South is trying to influence more people to become photographers through her images by expressing lots of color and light. She started taking photographs for personal reasons because she really loved colorfulness and had a passion for photography. Overall, Caroline South is a bright soul who loves photography.
Influences
Caroline South has influenced me by showing me that photography can be colorful and fun. It can have many different patterns. She was mostly influenced by just her love for creating things. She loved to post about her work on her instagram. Caroline used random objects to create color and life.

Compare and Contrast
- Colored pencils- In the original colored pencil photo the background is pink, but in my photograph the background is white. The colored pencils are also more even in the professional photograph. They’re kind of the same because they have the same color scheme and both have size differences in the pencils.
- Paint brushes- In Caroline’s photograph, all of the paint brushes are the same color as the paint, but in mine they aren’t. The professional photo is also neater. Lasty, they’re the same because they both have the same shades of blue paint.
- Flower envelope- First of all, the envelope in my photograph is white, whereas the one in Caroline’s is brown and smaller. Caroline’s photo is also brighter. They’re similar because the flowers look alike.
Personal Artist Statement
My first image, The colored pencils, shows an ombre effect. It’s different types of blues from white to black. My second image, The Paint Brushes, also shows this but in less colors. I think my third photograph, The flower envelope has a stronger meaning. I think it means that when you write a letter with love, that's what it feels like. Like flowers are coming out of your writing.
